Political Phase

The Talanoa Dialogue consisted of a preparatory and a political phase. The political phase brought high-level representatives of Parties to:

  • Take stock of the collective efforts of Parties in relation to progress towards the long-term goal referred to in Article 4.1 of the Paris Agreement; and
  • Inform the preparation of Nationally Determined Contributions, pursuant to Article 4.8, of the Paris Agreement.

The political phase took place at COP 24 with the participation of Ministers. At the closing meeting, the Presidencies of COP 23 and COP 24 provided a summary of key messages from the Ministerial Talanoas that were organized as part of the Talanoa events.

The political phase consisted of an opening meeting, a set of Ministerial Talanoas and a closing meeting.
